Our Eliot Spitzer Special Issue
One of the nice things of being around for awhile is that when a story like the Eliot Spitzer story breaks (link to Smoking Gun), people send you stuff. In the old days, I’d have to go out looking for it, now I just have to open my email.
And from the Dealbreaker…
Discovering that the exclusive international ring of prostitutes known as the “Emperor’s Club” charged up to $5,500 an hour for their services, New York governor Eliot Spitzer vowed to put an end to this price gouging practice.
…“That kind of excessive compensation is simply outrageous. Prostitution is allegedly a victimless crime,” Spitzer said in a press conference that took place only in our imaginations. “But now we see that its customers can become its victims.”

I wonder if Eliot will play the Marion Barry card (a pol who previously was caught with a hooker and in this case also was smoking crack). Marion claimed racism and in the end was forgiven by a population that has such a low opinion of government officials that even lying, crack-smoking, hooker-banging nut cases were electable.

You know I want to write about this guy, but this pisses me off so much all I can do is spew incoherently.
The fact that he abused his office is bad enough but come on $5500 / hr for a hooker? Doesn’t he realize he is driving the price up out of the range for all us common folk.
Just another example of the people vs. the powerful.

Let’s not forget the issue of collusion on the part of the hookers themselves. Clients pay to gouge the hooker, not to be gouged themselves.

It’s a shame the movie is old and semi-obscure now, but every time I hear this, I flash back to SHARKEY’S MACHINE (where the guy running for governor (Earl Holliman) was banging superhooker Rachel Ward. Good movie.
