Advice from Independent Sources

As you know we here at Independent Sources are community minded so when I saw the following in the Washington Post I knew I had to help:

Q Whatever other people might say about Windows Vista, I love its parental controls. But my son has found a proxy-server site that lets him bypass any site blocks I’ve placed. I can block this one site, but there must be others like it. Is there an answer to this dilemma?

Rob Pegoraro the Washington Post reporter who responded to the question answered:

AThere really isn’t.

Finally, a child can always go online on somebody else’s computer.

This may be an upsetting realization. If you want to feel better about it, consider what this suggests about the odds of the Chinese government keeping a billion or so Internet users away from parts of the Internet.

That answer probably isn’t a lot of comfort to the mom who doesn’t want her son watching home movies of Tijuana donkey shows on Youtube, so let me offer some alternative advice - First remove the microphone from the computer then cut off your son’s dirty dirty hands. He will still be able to get to the sites, but typing with his tongue it will be a lot slower and the long-term psychological damage won’t be as great.

Now how hard was that?

Washington Post I am available for a full time advice columnist gig if you are interested.

As the Irish skank says in Caddyshack, “Tanks for nuttin’, Danny.” That was a bogus YouTube link - I wanted to see what the donkey show fuss was all about.

You blew it. This an election year. The proper thing to do is:
    * Complain to your congressman or senator who has a contested seat
    * Launch a full-on Congressional investigation, complete with public hearings. Make sure to call Bill Gates, Al Gore and Susan Sarandon to testify.
    * Introduce legislation to give the FCC full control content over the internet “in the name of the children.” Because the Democrats have control of the legislative branch and will likely take the Executive, everything will be okay.
    * Write columns in your newspaper espousing why everyone in the US from 1 to 101 *SHOULD* be limited in what they can and cannot see on the internet, in accordance with your own personal views on what’s good and bad.

The media (both news and entertainment) and the government have solved all our problems in the past. You must summon these powerful forces to do it again.
