The Tenn. Rep. who leads police on 100 mph chase while drunk and causing accidents is apparently a victim

“Cries like a baby when he’s not throwing f-bombs”
We were going to ignore the story of yet another drunk member of Congress/Senate driving drunk until we saw the video of the arrest of House Judiciary Chair Rob Briley (D). Holy cow.
I don’t know much about Tennessee but maybe they won’t mind having a representative who rolls around on the highway crying like a baby so much that the officers arresting him tell him to start acting like a man. After he stops sobbing the f-bombs start and he comes off like a typical angry a-hole drunk. Later he starts trying to bate the cops telling them they were Germans not Americans. (Perhaps Tennessee doesn’t have much of a Germanic population but that kind of nativist statement wouldn’t fly too well in most Midwestern states.) More slurring, crying, wimpering, and arguing then ensue.
Not to editorialize, but what a loser. Not surprisingly he failed his sobriety test. For those of you who don’t know, this all started after Briley had led police on a high-speed chase (100 mph plus and a hit & run). He later kicked the window of a police car causing $1500 damage).
According to WBIR:
Representative Briley called the officer a Nazi and a brownshirt, then sang the first line of “Springtime For Hitler” from the Mel Brooks movie and musical “The Producers.”
According to this site he’s blaming his meds. No doubt alcoholism will be raised as will the phrases “road to recovery” and “Our prayers are with him.” He will be positioned as a victim of a horrible and unfortunately common disease, blah, blah, blah. Anyone who buys this stock defense deserves him as their representative.
Note that in an earlier post Chad noted the problems with over-zealous peace officers. Watch the patience of the arresting officers in dealing with Briley and tell me you didn’t secretly wish that Detective Mackey was making the arrest.

This is the other side of the coin as far as police officers go, although the “Christ be a man” comment is going to cost that officer at some point.
Unfortunately the bad officers cause enough problems that the good ones can’t always overcome the impression they leave.

I thought telling the perp “to be a man” was doing him a favor. Otherwise he might have remained fetal whining like an infant in front of the cameras.

I think he needs to repeat that phrase 10 times each morning before he goes out the door

Chad oughta wait until the officer gets HIS cuffs off before whining about police brutality or inappropriate commentary.
Here’s an idea: don’t MAKE the police come after your sorry ass and slap handcuffs on you in the first place.

I think something has been misinterpreted here. Neither Chad nor anyone else at IS is anti-police. His point was the reason SOME people have issues with police is in incidents of abuse of power and he noted a story that if it happened to any of us we would have been pretty pissed off to say the least. Chad wasn’t writing about brutality he was writing about an extremely poorly conceived and executed “sting.”
While my post was 99% about what a loser Rep Rob Briley is, 1% was about the crap that cops have to put up with. IMHO Briley’s mouthing off in the police car justified a response but perhaps justice was served in the holding cell or drunk tank by other prisoners who weren’t so reserved.
