Sad Day for Bat Boy; Weekly World News to Close Print Edition
From Reuters:
Publisher American Media Inc. said on Tuesday it will stop printing the Weekly World News, which for 28 years gleefully chronicled the exploits of alien babies, animal-human hybrids and dead celebrities.
The company said in a brief statement it would end the print version of the tabloid newspaper next month but would maintain the online version (www.weeklyworldnews.com).
“Due to the challenges in the retail and wholesale magazine marketplace that have impacted the newsstand, American Media, Inc. today announced it will close the print version of the Weekly World News, effective with the August 27 issue. Weekly World News was AMI’s smallest weekly publication.”

Is this simply a reflection of the changing media landscape or was the Weekly World News getting too close to truths that certain forces didn’t want out? You decide. But it’s a sad day nonetheless and will make waiting in line at the grocery store a lot less fun.

No! They can’t close, how will we learn about the proceedings of the Trilateral Commission when they hold their meetings at their secret Colorado compound known only as “The Meadows”?

Perhaps online advertising is doing well.
Or perhaps Ed Anger got in trouble with George W. Bush.

Odd that the LA Times is going online only, you’d think they would lose a lot of subscribers in their print distribution.
Oh, wait…
I keep confusing the LA Times with the Weekly World News.

Even the Weekly World News doesn’t have an equivalent of T.J.Simers.
