One More Reason to Dislike Parking Scum Enforcement

Parking enforcement ‘officers’ and their superiors like to pretend that they are focused on enforcing the law, and not on generating revenue for whatever city employs them.

Let this little story from Redondo Beach serve as a counterargument.

My neighbor’s old SUV — destined to be a charitable donation in the very near future — was stolen from right in front of his house last week. Yesterday, the Redondo Beach Police Department called to say that it had been found just blocks away. Someone had called the police about the car when they saw that one of its windows was broken in.

As a bonus, the car had a parking ticket.

During street sweeping, the car had sat on the street all by itself, with a busted window and wearing a license plate that had been reported stolen. But none of that was important — there was a $35 parking violation to be written up!

Steal a car — that’s one thing. But don’t you dare park on the wrong side of the street on street sweeping day!

    Insider Says:

Parking tickets have become so much of a municipal source of revenue that cities view people who park legally as “tax cheaters.” By parking legally you are taking money away from schools, hospitals, and lunch programs for kids. Go ahead and park in front of a hydrant and show that you care.
