Do people really need to be warned by the government not inject hair tonic into their penises?

All I can think is “what in the world were they thinking?”.

From Metro (UK) :

Authorities in Cambodia warned men on Tuesday against do-it-yourself penis enlargement treatments, in the aftermath of a case in which a man killed himself because of the side-effects of a botched enlargement attempt.

The man reportedly had been injecting hair tonic into his own penis – but the side effects were so agonizing that he hanged himself to end the pain.

The hair tonic was advertised as giving thicker and more lustrous hair. It did not have the same effect upon the man’s penis.

More coverage from IOL:

Coroner Vieng Vannarith concluded that a 35-year-old construction worker had hanged himself last week after the hair tonic remedy which advertised it gave thicker and more lustrous locks failed to have the same effect when injected into his penis.

Authorities said the man had been self-injecting for some time, and the treatment had caused massive ulceration, leaving him in such permanent agony that he decided to end his ordeal by his own hand.

“He wanted a bigger one very badly, and the results were tragic,” Vannarith said.

According to Cambodian newspapers the man had a wife and children. Furthermore this is not the first time something like this has happened prompting the health warning. Of course if this was the U.S. we would have a class action lawsuit against the hair tonic branding it an inherently dangerous product and prompting it to carry a warning to not inject it into one’s penis.

Like many tradegies, there was more than one victim. Not just him and his family, but every blogger who has reported on this story has been tracked by Google as searching on “penis enlargement”. I’ve been getting nothing but member enlargement AdSense ads and pop-ups every since I researched this damn thing. Just great.
