Because what Australia really wants is sticky sweaty johns wandering the streets
In an effort to reduce prostitution the government of New South Wales has given local authorities more leeway to act against illegal brothels including turning off their power and water.
There’ll be no red light over the door and it’ll be no showers and candle light at illegal brothels in NSW with the State Government planning to cut off their power and water supplies.
As part of a crack-down Planning Minister Frank Sartor says new laws promised before the March election will give local councils greater powers to deal with illegal sex shops.
Mr Sartor says council orders to close illegal brothels will be effective in five working days and local courts will also be allowed to order gas and water supplies to be cut.
Loopholes where owners can avoid prosecution by selling or transferring a lease will also be closed.
A new offence will also be created of failing to comply with an order to close an illegal brothel and fines will be increased for repeat offenders.
Mr Sartor says court procedures would also be streamlined so local councils and residents can trigger swifter action when an illegal brothel’s found.

Maybe it’s just me but I think this is exactly the wrong approach. It isn’t going to change the behavior, guys will be more than happy to screw in the dark. In fact if the prostitutes look anything like the ones who used to hang out on Montana Ave. back in Billings they will thank the council for cutting power. Not being able to shower isn’t going to affect the johns much either. Just their co-workers, the people on the bus, at the resturant etc. who have to put up with their post-coital stink.
Not really the effect that I think the officals are looking for.
