Woman drinks enough to get entire Rutgers women’s basketball team drunk then gets behind wheel

A Washington woman was arrested last week following two car crashes and registered a whopping .47 blood-alcohol content on a breath test — nearly six times the legal intoxication threshold and possibly a state record. Yes, by herself she drank enough to put the starting five (plus the “6th man”) in jail for intoxication.
Deana F. Jarrett, 54, was taken to Evergreen Hospital as a precaution following her arrest April 11, the Washington State Patrol said Wednesday. No one was injured in the accidents.
Jarrett blew the .47 on a portable breath tester after she collided with two other vehicles in quick succession, the patrol said. A check of all 356,000 breath tests administered since 1998 in Washington turned up only 35 above .40 — and none of those was higher than .45.
The legal intoxication threshold in Washington is .08.
Jarrett did not appear to have a listed phone number, and it was not clear if she had obtained a lawyer.

.47! That’s Kennedy material.

UPDATE: Davis Freeberg posed the question below of how much did this gal have to drink to be that drunk? This site has a drink calculator which, unfortunately doesn’t go up to .47. However interpolating and using a body weight of 140 lbs (the average weight of an American woman) it would seem that she had at least 16 drinks in a 2 hour period. Honestly, I don’t even know how she could stand let alone drive.

That is a lot of alcohol at some point you would die from drinking too much. I like to tie one back ever now and then, but at some point you feel so awful, you don’t want to get drunk. Anyone want to take a guess as to how many cocktails you have to drink to get that drunk?

Good question, I’ll post and update after I look into it.

It depends on how much she weighed and how fast she drank. When I was in Hsopital Corps school in San Diego back in 1984 they dug a student out of the bushes with a .6 BAC, he was in the ICU for a couple days. At the time I remember the instructor telling us that .4 or above was almost always fatal, although this wikipedia entry disagrees with that:
