Research: “These results do not mean that models are mentally disturbed”
All models have to do is walk up and down a catwalk and act as a human clothes rack. That apparently does not lead to career satisfaction, according to new research by City University (London).
Compared to normal people, models don’t connect well with others, can’t make independent decisions, and lack feelings of competence. Another study reported they are “more suspicious of others, … more disconnected and lonely, more impulsive and reckless, more intensely emotional, and more self-centred.”
The result: very unhappy — but very thin — fashion accessories.
There was no research into which of these attributes is so attractive to musicians.
Dr Björn Meyer of City University is quoted in a press release saying “These results do not mean that models are mentally disturbed, but they are nevertheless concerning and point to a potentially serious issue.”
