William Muckow

In one of the most convoluted schemes ever to grope women, William Warren Mucklow, 40, would pose as a mentally retarded person who needed soiled diapers changed so that he could fondle his home care nurses.

Mucklow, posing as his mother, responded to ads for home health care workers and hired at least two (and as many as 20) nurses, telling them a man with the mind of a 2- or 3-year-old needed care. The “mother” - actually Mucklow disguising his voice — described the man/child as a financial advisor who would regress into an infantile state because of a degenerative condition. The pay was $10/hour.

One of the victims described what happened on her first day of work when she showed up at Mucklow’s large Wood Road house. Mucklow was inside sitting on the couch, wearing a cloth diaper, watching cartoons, sucking on a pacifier, and speaking in a child’s voice.

“He always wore a diaper and plastic pants that you pull over them that had all the lace on the back of them,” she said. “He liked to wear nightgowns and they were pink and ruffly.”

Mucklow’s house was filthy and the carpet and tile of the floors were in disrepair. The heat only worked sporadically and there were piles of dirty clothes everywhere.

As the nurses changed his soiled diapers he would grab and play with their breasts. He would also attempt to suckle them.

He also had the nurses play “Barney” children’s videos for him.

One incredible aspect of this case is that the victims actually fell for it. Sometimes when one of the victims arrived at his house he wouldn’t be there. She’s call around and discover he was at work. He’d then drive home in his own car, often wearing a suit, and change into his diaper after entering the house.

Sometimes Mucklow would “emerge” from his faux-infantile state and the two would talk about Mucklow’ son (yes, he’s a dad), his ex-wife and the rest of his family. Mucklow explained that Mucklow’s “condition”would have him switch between adult and child.

For all of this, Mucklow was sentenced to a year on home confinement and ordered to pay court costs. He was also ordered to pay one victim more than $400 in restitution. Most incredibly, Mucklow will not have to register as a sex offender. If there was ever a person who should have to register it’d be him but then again is anyone ever going to forget the name William Warren Mucklow?
