Country Music Shocker - Willie Nelson Arrested For Pot and Mushroom Possesion

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (AP) — Willie Nelson and four others were issued misdemeanor citations for possession of narcotic mushrooms and marijuana after a traffic stop Monday morning on a Louisiana highway, state police said.
The citations were issued after a commercial vehicle inspection of the country music star’s tour bus, state police said in a news release.
“When the door was opened and the trooper began to speak to the driver, he smelled the strong odor of marijuana,” the news release said.
A search of the bus produced 11/2 pounds of marijuana and 0.2 pounds of narcotic mushrooms, according to state police.
Since Nelson is on the board of NORML this really shouldn’t be much of a surprise. What is a surprise to though is that a pound and a half of marijuana is a misdemeanor. Holy Crap what does it take to be a felony.
(In Montana where I grew up that amount would carry a sentence of 20 years, Washington 5 years, and Idaho 3 years. So much for the law and order south)
Oh Well, I have always thought Nelson was a dirty hippie so I guess its par for the course. He can still sing pretty good.

I am very sad the police would target a 73 year old man. I do not approve of Willie using Marijuana, it is illegal. But I believe it should be legalized for just this reason. I doubt locking up Willie will serve the public. What police office decided to INSPECT that bus, with all the dangerous, poorly maintained commercial vehicles on the road I would doubt the INSPECTION was anything more than a chance for a police officer to get his name in the local newspaper. Shame on the police officer who would target old men like that. But it is safer than arresting gun toting gang members who shoot people. I hope a smart lawyer gets this arrest dismissed. Or a smart jury finds them not guilty. And hopefully the police officer gets a few years working with the DEA arresting armed dangerous drug dealers.

Hmmm, I think Louisiana is exempt from the law abiding south portion of our show. Their justice system is sort of a national joke (witness all of those Katrina refugees who are now encountering the way TEXAS handles justice. ZOIKS!)
