Sham: AT&T Rents Widow a ‘rotary’ phone for 42 years charging her $14,000 in the process; says it’s just satisfying “demand”

“Digital divide” meets the “generation gap.”

First off, I’m kind of surprised rotary phones even still work with all of the required number punching to do squat. She must have spent ages on hold waiting for an operator to pick up any time she called a company with any form of automated operator. Second, 82 years is old yes, but this is a mistake that she should have caught 20 years ago when she was a sprite 62 years old.

It turns out she’s not alone. 750,000 people still lease their phone which basically means that AT&T is collecting over $20 million a year as a form of naivety tax.

You gotta love old people though. When the billing was discovered by her grand kids and her old phone replaced with a new push-button phone she responded by commenting how she doesn’t like it and misses the old dial phone.

AT&T is making monolithic, faceless, cold-hearted corporations look bad.

Why can’t goths shoot telecom execs instead of students?
