Are You Quality? Jaqueline Passey Says Chances Are You’re Not.

For those who have never visited Jacqueline Passey’s blog she is a Libertarian, Sci-Fi Fan Girl, with a degree in Economics and a fairly large following. She has also recently broken up with her boyfriend professional poker player Terrence Chan.

The breakup has apparently lead to a large number of unwanted relationship proposals which caused her to post a list outlining why she is a quality woman and what she considers a quality man.

I am a very high-quality woman. I know that sounds arrogant, but let’s consider the facts:

* I’m slim (whereas 62% of American women age 20 to 74 are overweight)
* I’m attractive (my new picture has been rated more attractive than 86% of the women on Hot or Not — and the women who upload their pictures are a self-selected sample that is probably already biased towards being more attractive than the general female population)
* I’m relatively young (whereas 82% of American adult women are over 30 years old)
* I’m intelligent (IQ tested at 145 when I was a child, which is 3 standard deviations above the mean — higher than 99.85% of the population. Even if I’ve gotten dumber as I’ve aged I’m probably still at least a 130, which is higher than 97.5% of the population.)
* I’m educated (whereas 77% of American women do not have bachelor’s degrees)
* I have my financial shit together (no debt, perfect credit history, 6+ months living expenses saved, adequate insurance, self employed)
* I have a strong libido and love having sex (my lover *never* has to beg, unless it’s for me to let him get some sleep!)
* Most of my interests tend to be more popular with men than women: science fiction, libertarianism, blogging, politics, economics, guns, gambling, etc.

Given that self-improvement is an ongoing project of mine this list will continue to grow (I’m currently working on adding bilingual, very physically fit, well-traveled, higher income, and fantastic cook to the list). So even when “relatively young” (an important criteria for most men) drops off that list, I should have added enough other things that my overall dating market value should remain the same or even improve.

Jacqueline adds that when she posts a personal ad she typically receives 50 to 100 replies and the she is often approached based only on her looks. This is offered as further validation of her value as a potential girlfriend.

Because of this she prefers to date only men that meet her definition of high quality:

men who are also fit, attractive, intelligent, educated, financially successful, etc. I’m attracted to men from any race and a wide age range (21 to 50 or so) so the pool of men who meet those requirements is quite large, which allows me to add all sorts of additional restrictions if I want — must be atheist, must be libertarian, must not want (more) children, must be financially independent or self-employed and available for frequent world travel, etc.

What is most interesting about Jacqueline’s post is the response it has garnered. Granted that the tone is both arrogant and rude, it only took 5 comments for someone to accuse her of being mentally ill (ADHD) and another 2 to put her on the defensive. A couple of people did rise to her defense but most seemed willing to let her swing.

Makes you wonder how many of her regular commenters are derived from people with a fantasy about having a relationship with her? Now that she has made it clear she isn’t interested is she a fair target?

Just one of those things that happen on the blogosphere that make you wonder.

Update: My two favorite takes on this so far:

Siginifying Nothing – “I know I’m quality my Mom told me so.”
The Agitator – “This woman makes Stuart Smiley look like John Wayne.”

Update #2: Long or Sort Capital – Whose mission statement reads:

At Long or Short LLC, we leverage our superior intellect and extensive investing experience to recommend explicit Long or Short positions and related abstract trades, which may or may not be possible with real world financial derivatives. We use science to improve the lives of the rich.

Recommends that potential investors short Jacqueline.

Ms. Passey also has a new entry with an example of some of the stalking e-mail she has been receiving. The guy seems a little creepy to me.

mm, would never have guessed she was under 30, looks like she’s pushing 40 personally.

Passey suffers from what’s known as “big fish in small pond” syndrome. Which is to say, yeah… she’s hot… for a sci-fi geek, convention chair. I used to be one of the hot chicks at the convention, too, but I was well aware that in the real world… I’m pretty much normal. I mean… it doesn’t take much to qualify as really desirable as the only woman without BO in an ocean of fanboys…

Damn Veronica SciFi conventions and no BO. I was gonna ask you to marry me but then I saw that you already have a husband.

It was actually anime conventions. Which may be even lamer, and the standards for “HOT” may have been even lower.

Ah well then, I’m glad I didn’t embarrass myself. :-D
    j/k

I think it’s all about how you feel about yourself. I find a lot of women that Jacqueline would dismiss as low quality attractive beacuse the are happy and when they smile they mean it. On the other hand there are a lot of very attractive women that I wont even talk to because they just have a nasty disposition.

Chad, that makes you honest and sincere rather than materialistic, which is a far healthier way to approach life. As for Jacqueline, she sounds to me like someone who is simply desperate for validation. For someone so “independently minded,” she sure feels the need to constantly compare herself to others, doesn’t she? Someone who is a real individual doesn’t care how they measure up to others. As for the responses she gets to her personal ads, I’m a size 14, which makes me fat according to most standards, and I manage to get 50-100 responses to my personal ads whenever I post them. And I post honest (and recent) photos of myself along with them. I don’t mislead people about who I am.

I saw this woman’s blog being mercilessly lampooned over at somethingawful.com and what a bitch she is! They also dug up a picture of her that is -NOT- the Photoshopped picture accompanying her post and here it is (warning: don’t show this to little kids because they’ll dream of scary monsters for months on end):

Looks kind of like Dick Cheney to me, not attractive one bit. (That’s what the Something Awful writer said, too.)
She’s obviously been hit on by men she finds unsuitable one too many times and now thinks she has to validate herself by basically saying she’s better than everyone. Ha!

Not only at something awful but at Ace of Spades ( http://ace.mu.nu/archives/193209.php ) My favorite line -

She comes somewhere on the “I’d hit it” scale between “I’d hit it, but only if it were 3am and I was drunk and really needed somewhere to crash for the night” and “I’d hit it, but only if she walked right up to me, grabbed my hog with both hands, and screamed to the bar, ‘I claim this Man-Thing as mine own!!’ and then vowed to fight any challengers to the death with Vulcan axe-spears.”

Because yeah, I don’t care what you look like, that’s hot.

I have visited her blog in the past and participated in some of the Battlestar Galactica threads, but this was just too much for me. Probably because I am exactly the kind of loser she is rejecting, although I have never e-mailed a woman at random and asked for sex. Phone calls yes emails no. :-)

I have no idea what could have brought on his sexual orientation switch. None whatsoever. Read the 500-some-odd comments after her post, too. This woman has become the latest celebrity in the blogosphere, as everyone seems to be lining up to take a crack at her. We here at Ignorant Critics never want to be left out of the party, of course. This is true entertainment. Thanks go to Ace, pretty much my favorite blogger of all time, for bringing my attention to this barrel o
