Expect Mel Gibson to get three years probation

Why does Independent Sources think Mr. Gibson will get “three years probation“? Because that’s what happens to famous who are arrested for drugs, DUI’s, or just generally misbehaving.

Director Lee Tamahori was arrested on Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood for soliciting prostitution while wearing an off-the-shoulder dress, a long black wig and full makeup. What was the sentence? Three years probation.

Actor Brad Renfro, the star of such movies as “Apt Pupil” and “The Client,” was among 14 people arrested in a drug crackdown in downtown LA trying to buy heroin from an undercover officer. The result? Three years probation.

Disgraced Mayor Marion Barry received three years probation for failure to pay income tax. The crack-smoking pol must also undergo drug testing as a condition of his probation.

In 2001, Actor Robert Downey Jr. was sentenced three years probation after entering a no contest plea to one of his many on drug possession charges.

While not really a celebrity, the man who dumped “Reggie” the urban alligator into a Los Angeles area lake received three years probation as did former “Saturday Night Live” regular Tracy Morgan on his DUI.

Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland drug problems got him three years probation. So did Tom Sizemore who got his three years probation for methamphetamine use. Speaking of which, we can’t mention Sizemore without talking about his Whizzinator!

Even a non-conformist like Martin Sheen goes with the crowd when it comes to sentencing getting three years probation for his trespassing charges. So do one-time sports celebrities like former baseball star Dwight Gooden who himself was sentenced to three years probation after pleading guilty to speeding away from police following a traffic stop last August.

Since Mr. Gibson’s actions do not fall under federal sentencing guidelines we can’t be certain what will happen. Furthermore, despite the variety of charges against the famous perps listed above, none of them called an arresting officer “sugar t*ts” so this is uncharted territory. However, it’s hard to imagine him getting anything worse than probation. Anything less than three years will make it look like he’s getting preferential treatment (already an issue in this case) and anything more than three years will appear punitive compared to his other peer celebrity lawbreakers.
