Get Out The Chisel

Want to memorialize your love for your spouse forever?

Are you sure?

Hermosa Beach (CA) officials have received at least three requests to have engraved bricks removed from the city’s beach-side “Millenium Walkway.” Locals purchased them as part of Hermosa’s year 2000 festivities and many say things like “Mary and Joe Smith.”

The problem — some of the spouses are now ex-spouses.

The Easy Reader reports that:

… city officials have received requests to rip out three of the walkway’s bricks bearing the names of couples who are now divorced. Those requests have come from new wives of two men whose names remain etched in brick with those of their ex-wives, and from one ex-husband eager to move on.

… One wife was going for a romantic stroll with her new husband and low and behold, she saw his ex-wife’s named etched in brick, Lynn said. The one ex-husband who contacted the city said his new love would not marry him as long as his ex-wife’s brick haunts her millennial footsteps.

The city plans to do nothing.

For the men — at least it wasn’t a tattoo.
