Shanadoo: Japanese Pop To Drive You Friggin’ Crazy

It is the sort of Japanese Pop that makes you understand why North Koreans are aiming missiles at their island. You hear it, start tapping your foot to it, think it’s cute and then realize that it is driving you crazy. Even if you turn it off you keep hearing it play over and over in your head. Kind of like “What’s the frequency Kenneth?”

Anyway, I thought they were singing gloriously about “Gingko”, it turns out they were singing about “King Kong.”

Update: Here is what Popbitch says about them:

Shanadoo are four Japanese girls Chika, Junka,
Marina and Manami who manage to convey both
wholesome and mucky like no-one since the
Spice Girls.

Their track King Kong will burrow into your brain
like a bug, combining inscrutable Japanese lyrics,
the occasional words in English, rapping and
Eurohouse synths. And, of course, there’s a
dance that goes with it, the Para-Para.
