I don’t know why I am so fascinated by the Deb Frisch story, it isn’t because she is a liberal because I am pretty sure she would act the same way if she were far to the right of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity et al., It isnt because she threatened Jeff Golstein’s son because that part seems to have drawn the attention it needed. I think is just because it is like watching an accident in slow motion you can see the metal crumpling but it isnt quite finished. Anyway…

Earlier this last weekend Deb Frisch posted that she had been contacted by Fox News about being interviewed on this subject today she posted a Faux Newz Update. It starts with:

“A guy from Fox News named Richard Carbery emailed me on Saturday asking me if I’d be willing to be interviewed on Monday. I said yes, but then, I talked to people who actually watch Fox News and they strongly advised me against being interviewed on Fox, on account of they bully moonbat guests like me. Here’s the correspondence so far. Any advice on how to reply to Mr. Carbery would be appreciated.”

She implies above that she is not familar with Fox News, but on the 8th of July Frisch was already referring to Fox News as Faux Newz showing that she has some knowledge of the network and their editorial positions. Frisch then begins to attempt to toy with the scheduler offering an old NPR interview”

“because I know you are really into fair and balanced reporting and the more information the better!”

even though the NPR interview relates to her work at the National Science Foundation (according to her I tried to listen to the link and couldn’t), and not to the current situation. Carbery turned her down.

After a few more exchanges Frisch tells Carbery:

I talked to a reporter from the Arizona Daily Star today and they are going to have a story tomorrow. Jeff and I have resolved our differences and both want to de-escalate the situation. So I am going to pass on the offer to be interviewed by Fox News.

This after having posted:

Here’s a comment that sums up how nutty the right is - condoning violence against me because I made a joke on a blog about the death of a nasty rightwing blogger’s toddler.

I think that pretty much demolishes the apology theory since apologies generally require more than just mouthing the words I’m sorry. They generally require some repentance, which is lacking here.

Carbery to his credit calls Frisch on her statement that they (Frisch and Goldstein) had resolved their differences:

I emailed Jeff, with whom I’ve never corresponded to before and he claims that (your claim) that you’ve put this behind you, is false. I don’t know if this is a pattern with you but you agreed to come on, now you’re obfuscating coming on and perhaps misrepresenting the situation. If you want to “de-escalate” why not hop on the phone with the host for five minutes and participate.

23 minutes after that exchange Frisch posts:

Dear Count Cockula,

South(west)paw

with a link to a profile of Goldstein and a picture of his face and a mocked up cereal box.

I am not sure where she is going with all this, if she is after attention I guess I am aiding and abetting, but my God it is just too amusing not too.

Update #1 7/11/2006 - Deb Frisch admitted yesterday that the “death threat” she had recieved was taken out of context. Of course she wasn’t at fault, she didn’t realize it wasn’t directed at her. That just makes me wonder if Frisch actually reads anything she posts about or just does a keyword search and then cuts and pastes.

Secondly she posted yesterday:

“This will be my last post on South(west)paw on the Goldstein affair for at least one month”.

Just about 6 hours later she posted:

I received this email:

“I am sorry to read about your troubles. I believe you that you were never a threat to Mr. Goldstein’s son, that it was just an internet altercation that got out of hand.

I am concerned for you and I will be praying for you that you get through this. Please don’t be offended because I don’t mean to offend you, I know that you are an anti-Christian atheist. (I’m catholic btw) Normally I’d just pray for you and not offend you by telling you. But I think you will be in for quite a storm (which I hope blows over quickly) so I wanted to send you the following prayer. It’s ok to pray it even though you don’t believe.”

I was willing to give a pass on this one because she was replying to a supporter but then this morning:

“churchill, sheehan & denton

I’m still getting some creepy stalker/threatening email and comments (they are moderated and I delete the ones that are too nasty or incoherent or wordy). It’s like I’m a combination of Ward Churchill, Cindy Sheehan and Denice Denton. Apparently, there are a LOT of people out there who have a pent-up desire to stalk and try to bring down uppity lefties.
But why they think that continuing to tinkle on my ankle is going to slow me down is beyond me.”

So are we supposed to be too dumb to know what incident she is tlaking about? This woman just continues to perturb my in a visceral way. I know that is the reaction she wants but I can’t help it. She claims to be recieving creepy stalker/threatening e-mails but since she keeps turning comments on and off and deletes the ones that are “too nasty or incoherent or wordy” we can’t really judge that for ourselves but here is the nastiest one I found on her latest post:

Are you just totally INSANE? You really do believe that you are still somehow a “victim” in all this?

I’m sure you won’t post this, though. Apprently, the truth is just too much for you.

I’m getting the shivers it’s like Halloween when you know Michael Meyers is behing the curtains waiting to strike .

Seriously if Deb Frisch is recieving death threats or threats of violence then that is wrong, no qualification no equivication, but if is just recieving rude e-mails and comments; Sorry lady you brought that on yourself.
