Deborah Frisch – A Psychologist Defends Ward Churchill and Threatens a Two Year Old
Deborah Frisch is a psycholgist and former director of the Decision, Risk and Management Sciences at the National Science Foundation. Until the 8th of July she was also a professor at the University of Arizona. She is also the proprietor of the blog South(West) Paw.
In 2005 Dr. Frisch referring to Ward Churchill’s Little Eichmanns comment said:
“Actually, the analogy is extremely apt and not outrageous at all. It is clear from the context, that Professor Churchill was referring to Hannah Arendt’s comments about Eichmann.”
Hannah Arendt covered the Eichmann trial and observed that he did not look monstrously evil, and that the root of his evil was a mindless obedience to authority. In Dr. Frisch’s mind this is apparently an apt description of those who died on 9/11, “Blindly obiedent to authority”. She goes on to say:
“I agree with Churchill that America was not an “innocent victim” on 911. I’m tempted to agree that “titans” of finance are more guilty than the rest of us. But even though they’re better compensated than the rest of us, they’re no more guilty, really. We’re all little Eichmanns. Only the far left is willing to admit it.”
Churchill’s crime was noting that the 911 victims in particular and Americans in general were not innocent lambs. This is worse than Susan Sontag’s crime noting that the 911 terrorists weren’t “cowards.” But it’s just as true.
Since he’s well within his first amendment rights, Churchill’s attackers are questioning his academic credentials. He’s been forced to prove that he’s a genuine native American.
Of course the charges of Plagarism and Research Misconduct have nothing to do with Ward Churchill’s problems. I admit that they were brought up after the Little Eichmanns statement, but it is a cause and affect relationship. He made an outrageous public statement and people began researching his other work. They found irregularities and Churchill was called on the carpet.
Frisch then goes on to say:
“Social psychologists, philsophers and sociologists should be defending Churchill for his brilliant, but veiled reference to Arendt, Milgram and Zimbardo. But the academic social science left has been lukewarm at best to Churchill.
The cycle of dehumanization continues.”
Which brings us to Deb Frisch’s latest body of work, a series of exchanges from her University of Arizona email account to Jeff Golstein of Protein Wisdom. (site is currently down)

Aside from the fact that she is obviously not qualified to be teaching decision making and risk analysis, I mean holy crap posting this from your work e-mail, I just wonder who is really doing the dehumanizing?
Update #1: Apparently Deb Frisch has a history of making a pest of herself on blogs. Professor Stephen Bainbridge from the UCLA Law School reports a history of misrepresenting a persons position, making gross factual errors and ad-hominiem (sp?) attacks. One of his readers sent him a link to this post, which starts out:
“A fellow named Stephen Bainbridge has his panties in a knot because I falsely described him as having supported Summers and criticized Churchill when in FACT, “professor Bainbridge” never even DISCUSSED the Summers fiasco.”
She then goes on to say:
Dear Professor,
I am sorry for mistakenly accusing you of dissing Churchill but defending Summers. All you rightwing bloggers look alike to me.

clarification re: white flag
I just got an email that said:
You got what you f***ing deserve. It’s only a positive thing for the country; one less liberal warping the minds of American students in tax-payer funded colleges. NO ONE feels sorry for you, you’ve done this all to yourself. Ha,ha!
The point of resigning is that it is something I was thinking of doing anyway. I want to stay in Eugene, OR where moonbats rule instead of living in Tucson, AZ where moonbats are in the minority. So my point is not that you should feel sorry for me but rather you should lay off the stalking like the emails to the head of the psych department at the University of Arizona, the nasty, threatening comments at the various rightwingnut blogs that have jumped on this “story.”
So when Dr. Frisch raised the whute flag yesterday and said “I have lost my job can you call of the attack dogs”, she lied
The department head said he would deal with this on Monday. No one has formally accepted my resignation yet. I’ve just submitted it. I understand there are many, many people out there who will want to know how the University of Arizona responds to my offer to give up my temporary gig teaching psychology next year. I will let you all know on Monday or Tuesday.

Unbelievably, many rightwingnutcases are still on this story, asking me to apologize over and over, criticizing me over and over even though Jeff accepted my offer of a bottle of tequila as a peace offering.
This after she made a post stating that all the attention was kind of exciting. I guess we have a case of leave me alone but pay attention to me syndrome here.

This next part is a flat out lie, And I guess that peace offering was just a quick attempt at a buy off:

In the comments section on this post was the following:

It’s just SO Admirable to see you have SO MUCH outrage about Deb Frisch’s comments about Jeff Goldstein’s toddler child. For someone to attack, use, and/or harm a child is as low as a person can stoop.

That I have talked about.
Gil Garcetti and others in the State of California Government, and certain people in The Federal Government, with Retail Companies, have covered-up a MAJOR, MAJOR, MAJOR Situation with this Company called “Mr. Bath Bear” (Pertkit, I spelled it wrong before)). Certain people and Government Organizations have Illegally retailiated against me because of this. This was a children’s toy. I worked for this company, “Mr Bath Bear,” in 1991 through some of 1992. Some of the sponges had “TOXIC POISON” in them and other harmful Chemical’s added, for reasons, to make the toy grow in water, and then shrink back to it’s normal size. The Toy was sold by me to companies like Nordstroms, Sears, Jacobson’s Department Store’s, The Mercantile Group, Longs Drugs, Fedco, Albertsons, and MANY MORE Retail outlet’s……….I can go on and on……….. I’ve got this Documented BIG-TIME (Invoices, Ect, LOT’S), and, The product was sold after a certain time period by certain retail outlet’s “WITHOUT,” and I repeat, “WITHOUT” Product Liability Insurance. Another words, The Product Liability Insurance ran out, and the product was sold by MANY Retail Outlet’s after the Product Liability Insurance ran out. When I found out, I told Many People, Certain Government Organizations, and Companies about this, but no one did anything about it for whatever Greedy, Illegal Reasons, and MORE. I am Talking $$$$$ BILLIONS and BILLIONS of $$$$$$$$ Dollars in Potential lawsuits, Very Possible Negligent Criminal Homicide, Criminal and Illegal Cover-up, and MORE. Certain people and Organizations have tried to have me WIPED OFF the Face of the earth just for this Situation alone. It’s a Very Complex Situation.
ANYONE, AND I MEAN ANYONE, that has ever had his or her child, or children play, Chew on, or come in contact with this toy, they need to get them to a doctor, FAST. THIS IS SERIOUS.
I am talking thousands of children that may have been infected, and now their offspring that could be harmed.

I think I have made it clear that my problem with Deborah Frisch is with her behavior. While she is entitled to her nutcase beliefs just like you are I don’t have to agree with them and I am entitled to call BS on them until Insider or Senior Admin Official decide at their editorial discretion to move a thread in a different direction.
I find it amazing that you Maro G. Nitrini are at the center of all these happenings. You are involved in the OJ Simpson case and bring wrong doing to the authorities attention and are ignored, You work for a toy company that is negligently poisoning children but you are ignored.
I forget what other contoversies you are involved in besides the LAPD trying to assassinate you but it’s almost like watching a twisted version of Forrest Gump, and honestly I have to tell you I don’t really buy into any of it, especially since I can’t follow any of the narrative of what you write. As far as I can tell you want anyone who ever uttered the words OJ Simpson arrested for some vast conspiracy. You talk about legal documents but I haven’t seen any. Put up or shut up

Your complaint seems to center around the involvement of a Ronald Bateman, a former in-law. The documents that you have attached have nothing to do with him other than he is mentioned in an article by Bill Boyarsky.
I noted that the article by Bill Boyarsky in the LA Times it states that the Simpson defense team was planning on calling Ronald Bateman so he was hardly a secret which is what you continually imply, and from what I read in the article was Ronald Bateman didn’t drive OJ Simpson that night, not that he never worked for the livery service, which is what you state the LAPD Claimed in your blog. Finally you claim that this was all part of a plan to frame OJ and that you are being trageted for your part in disrupting it. Why OJ got off without, as far as I remember your intrevention, the LAPD has no reason to go after you other than stupidity on their part. Also why did they wait between 1995 and 2000 to attempt to assassinate you? Why didn’t they do it before you did the damage in the weeks when you were talking to Bill Boyarsky? Before you had convinced CNN to look into Ronald Bateman.

And this is what I am talking aboutwhen I say it’s like a twisted version of Forrest Gump. How are you involved in all these cases? It’s like the criminal world is revolving around you. Are you just constantly in the wrong place at the wrong time or is there something more sinister at work.
Finally I didnt say you had nutcase beliefs I said you were entitled to them, but since you asked I think your fixation on the OJ Simpson trial and your role in pushes hard against the reality limits.

Rocky Bateman went on CNN in Mid-June, 1995, and said he was OJ Simpson’s “Regular” driver for over 3 years. HE’s LYING. He drove OJ Simpson approximately from August of 1993 to June of 1994. And that’s not all those 2 did………………..

I will stand corrected on the Rocky vs. Ronald and Ventura aspects although I am sure that in one of the threads I read it identified the location as Ventura.
As for the rest of it it’s good you don’t care because honestly I don’t have a lot of interest in your involvement in all these cases. Post away, have a good time.

Everyone makes mistakes. You probably thought that Van Nuys was Ventura. And Detective Ronald Y. Ito/Rocky Bateman. No big deal.
When “THINGS” legally hit in these cases, I’ll go out on a limb, and say you will have more interest in cases I am involved in since you have read my writings.
Back to the Children. What about it? Don’t you have some interest in helping thousands of children who were exposed to the toy Mr. Bath Bear?

Within a day Ms. Frisch announced that she had tendered her resignation at UofA (citing a desire to be in the more moonbat friendly Eugene Oregon) but referencing the volume of email received by her boss. Conservative bloggers and liberalbloggers weighed in. Frisch apologized then backed off from the apology, ultimately blaming Goldstein and calling herself a victim. To their credit, many lefty bloggers condemned Frisch’ actions. Others praised her.
