On Your Way Out The Door, Smith, Hand Back Your Christmas Bonus Too

On June 15th National Semiconductor announced plans to give every employee a video iPod.

Last week it laid off 35 of them at its Arlington, TX plant … and asked for their iPods back.

Cash value: $10,000. PR damage: Priceless.

While the company apparently believed the iPods remained company property — like a laptop that an employee can use for some personal use — that’s not what the recipients thought. A person who said they were one of the laid-off workers told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that many employees thought the iPods were a gift.
