In case you are unfamiliar with him, here is some of what Richard Ramirez was up to in the 80’s (note the ages of some of his rape/murder victims):

June 28, 1984—Jennie Vincow, 79, Glassell Park. Her throat was slashed. Murder, Burglary
March 17, 1985–Dayle Okazaki, 34, and Maria Hernandez, 20, Rosemead. Dayle was shot to death. Murder, attempted murder, robbery.
March 17, 1985–Veronica Yu, 30, Monterey Park. Drug from her car and shot. Murder.
March 27, 1985–Vincent Zazzara, 64 and his wife Maxine, 44, Whittier. Stabbed and mutilated. Two counts of murder, sexual charges.
May 14, 1985—-Bill Doi, 66, Lille Doi Monterey Park. Shot to death. Murder, robbery, sexual charges.
May 30, 1985—-Carol Kyle, 41, Burbank. Rape, Sodomy, oral copulating, burglary. Burglary, sex charges, robbery.
June 1, 1985—-Mable “Ma Bell” Bell, 83, and sister, Florence “Nettie” Lang, 80, Monrovia. Keller was bludgeoned to death, and satanic symbol were scrawled in various places. Murder, attempted murder, robbery.
June 27, 1985—-Patty Higgins, found dead in her home in Arcadia, her throat cut.
July 2, 1985—-Mary Louise Cannon, 75, Arcadia. Beaten and throat slashed. Murder, burglary.
July 5, 1985—-Whitney Bennett, 16, Sierra Madre. Attempted murder, burglary.
July 7, 1985—-Joyce Lucille Nelson, 61, Monterey Park. Beaten to death. Murder, burglary.
July 7, 1985—-Sophie Dickman, 63, Monterey Park. Raped and sodomized. Burglary, robbery, sex charges.
July 20, 1985—Max, 68, and Lela Kneiding, 66, Glendale. Both shot to death. two counts of murder, robbery.
July 20, 1985—Chainarong Khovananth, 32, Sun Valley. Shot to death…his son and wife were both sodomized. Murder, robbery, burglary, sex offenses.
August 8, 1985–Elyas Abowath, 35, Diamond Bar. Shot while sleeping. Murder, robbery, burglary, rape

As sick as these descriptions are, they don’t do justice to the horror that he caused. For example, in just one instance, Ramirez broke into Patty Higgins’ home while she was asleep. He woke her up and then beat her, raped her, and then slashed her throat so deeply that she was almost decapitated. Nice guy.

No one disputes these or other charges and he sits on death row in San Quentin Prison. You would think he would be a pariah of society. Think again. There are women who “think he’s hot”.

These women have never met him and only know of him from his throat slashing/raping/bludgeoning/murdering spree of the 80s. Reading just some of the entries from a surprisingly-balanced website dedicated to Ramirez and one can only pray that they one day get the mental health they so dearly need.

It never senses to amaze me how people blur the line between the ideal of forgiveness with idolizing and love. You can forgive someone without “thinking they are hot” or turning them into some sort of folk hero. Tookie Williams was a great example of this (as is double-murderer Scott Peterson). For some people there appears to be nothing in-between he is a Satanic, serial-killing bad guy who should be put to death for his crimes (my viewpoint) and “I love you big hunk Ramirez” (see below).

“Richard I can understand why you completely turned away from society. I,too am a lone [sic], I couldnt [sic] abide by the stringent morality being governed by churches the government etc. At least in the satanism you are accepted for who and what yyou [sic] are….Love you, that will never change.”

“richard i love you and you are right, socirty [sic] is full of maggots.”

Ramirez, now 46, was condemned to die in 1989 for 13 Los Angeles-area murders. A date has not yet been set for his execution and in fact despite overwhelming evidence of his guilt his conviction is being appealed due to questions of the qualifications of the attorneys hired by his family. Apparently if one is guilty of heinous crimes a valid strategy for avoiding a sentence of death is to hire the worst possible lawyers. It’s impossible to imagine a different outcome from another trial regardless of his representation making the entire matter a Tookie Williams-like farce.
