Tamara Hoover is the most popular teacher in school
Tamara Hoover, an art teacher at Austin (TX) High School, is in danger of losing her job for posting topless photos of herself on Flickr, where by the way she has a friends list of 1467 people. Many of them look to be of high school age.
Hoover, according to CNN, was an excellent teacher, able to help students find their creativity. Whats she apparently couldn’t do is get along with another (uglier I bet) teacher, who apparently ratted her out in a disputed over a piece of ceramics equipment.
My personal feelings on this are mixed. On the one hand it isn’t like she was posting hard core sex tapes. She was topless, for (insert random diety name here) sake. If you are in high school and you don’t know what boobs look like you have bigger problems than Tamara Hoover posing topless. On the other hand maybe she does deserve to be fired. Not for any morals violation, but for being stupid enough to post the pictures in a publicly accessible place. Especially given all the attention MySpace and Flickr have drawn recently. Is being a dumbass a cause for termination under her contract?
Update: Here is a link to her MySpace page where she is accepting donations to help her fight. (Perhaps she’ll start selling photos to make some real coin?). She lists her occupation as “unemployed” so it appears that she does not hold out much hope of keeping her job. I say keep her and fire the old tire that ratted her out.
By the way, the photo’s were taken and posted by Hoover’s female partner, Celesta Danger, who put up hundreds of photos of Hoover as part of an on-line documentary of their lives together. This was her take:
“I don’t think I can be responsible for other peoples’ perceptions or reactions when they look at my photos, it has to do with their state of mind at the time,” Danger said. “I’m not out to change people’s minds, but I’m not a pornographer.”
Update: Who would have thought that this would become a big story in the blogosphere? I mean semi-hot teacher who posts topless pictures of herself? Why would hot topless teacher be of interest? Here are some folks already on the story:

Update: As of June 26th, Tamara has 2,232 MySpace friends. This is probably 2,231 more friends than the teacher who ratted her out and got her fired. Some pretty funny comments and a surprisingly diverse group of supporters (that is not exclusively young males who just want to see her boobs). Update: The Austinist as an interview with Celesta Danger, Tamara’s lover of three years and the photographer in the Tamara Hoover case. Some interesting tidbits including the controversy has led to record-breaking traffic for Flickr, that Tamara failed to achieve the higher moral standard that is expected of teachers in Austin yet she doesn’t drink, smoke, do drugs, and is a Vegan. Tamara’s attorney asked if an Austin teacher had an abortion would she be fired?

There is a little bit of an exhibitionist in all of us, pretty sure that the intent was not to broadcast globally, but think that quite a few males have had a teacher that made them wonder what they looked like naked. Personally I can think of a few, including my 7th grade art teacher. Looking at the volume of data that comes up in a google search from this you have to wonder how this could be used to broadcast more useful or profitable information. Tamara’s partners photos were interesting, but not sure that she or Tamara were ready for a product launch & very few companies could afford the kind of publicity this generated.
Based on the ripple that this caused in the web it will be interesting to see how it is duplicated for more materialistic purposes beyond an expression of love. Hope for the best for both of them in the future.

If Tamara was my teacher and I came across a photo of her naked, striking erotica poses and have the words “fuck me” on my belly, I would not consider that art. I consider her a freak. And yes she has the right to be a freak but then don’t be a teacher. Nudity can be artistic but whats so poetic about “Fuck ME.” She does not belong in the teaching profession. We don’t need teachers who walk around with a “Fuck ME” T-shirt on. She’s too immature to be a teacher. You would think she’s a high school student by the way she’s acting. ALL i know is that if she gets her teaching position back then that whole incident that happened with Pee Wee Herman who jacked off in a porno theater on his own time in his private life, lost his career and show happened for nothing. If justice was good enough for Pee Wee then its good enough for tamara hoover.

Teacher’s nude photos: Violates “higher moral Standard” Hmmmm, I would think the topless does not constitute “nude”. If so every man that goes to the beach is nude. Lets be realistic. This is the most “nudephobic” country on the planet beside middle eastern countries that force thier women to cover from ground to top of head and are so sexually deprieved that they lurk in chat rooms looking for nude women.
Also, it was said that her “partner” placed them on a web site. Is she now responsible for the actions of her partner? Of, we can’t allow our children to ever go to an art museum or read an art book, or look at art scultures as nudism is common in all these areas. My suggestion is simple. If the school district is that nudephobic they might consider not having an art department at all, unless you want your students to draw stick people. However, a famous American Artist named Lowell Davis drew stick people with breasts while he was learning to draw and if ridiculed for it we might have all lost the wonderful works of the artist dubed “the grandfather of country art” by the Saturday Evening Post.
Get a grip people. The female form is not a work of the devil, but IS instead a creation og God, and MY Goad, doesn’t make no junk!

Austin, Texas Public Schools are in trouble, students
have taken over the schools and run roughshod over teachers
and especially substitutes while administrators try to blame
teachers
In the public schools in Austin, Texas. A Substitute teacher
tells his students he if from NYC. A student responds “there
area lotta fags there” Students laugh and start yelling fag,
At another Austin ISD High School a note is distributed by
the principal telling students another student has brought a
gun to school. A scene that is becoming all too familiar at
Austin Independent School District.
In Public Schools in Austin, Texas students are out of
control, they cuss, they insult teachers, they carry
weapons, wear gang colors, teachers and substitute teachers
are verbally abused, they are told to mind their own
business,students come into the class room and get on
Internet sites that are supposed to be blocked, students
wear headsets while listening to music.
I showed a film on the holocaust and students refused to pay
attention. There is a serious problem with the growth in
anti gay hatred and anti Semites on the school campuses of
the Austin Independent School District in Austin Texas and
school administrators will take whatever steps to keep the
seriousness of a school district out of control out of the
public eye
On any given morning students will be running around the
classroom cussing, throwing papers, insulting teachers,
ignoring the messages from the politically correct HS
Principal who is trying to convince him/herself that their
school is great. While in the class students are telling me
that this particular Assistant Principal is a “fagot”
Students refuse to stand for Pledge, they continue to talk
and slouch through pledge. i ask why they will not stand and
one student tells me when all the whites are gone and they
play the Mexican National Anthem he will stand.
Racist slurs and anti Black speak amongst other non white
cultures is quite common.
While the problem is ignored by the administrators who are
out in the community getting their next handout from taxpayers.
In Austin Independent School District teachers and
especially Substitutes have no support from anyone. They are
told that they are over reacting if they complain about hate
speak or threats by students. In many schools teachers and
subs are in fear and students rule the roost!
Classes are overcrowded, English is hardly ever spoken in
many classes and it is not uncommon to have a 20 year old
11th grade male in a class with a 13 year old 9th grader. In
one class there was a student who is soon to be 21 and in
the 10th grade.
To understand the growth in violence amongst youth one just
has to see what is going on in elementary, Junior High
School and high schools in Austin, Texas and other cities.
Substitute teachers have no union, have no support, they are
not even paid a living wage, get no benefits and are not
supported or protected by administrators.
One does not have to look far to see why the foundation of
America is crumbling.
No one ethnic group is more responsible than another,But we
all share the responsibility in ending this nonsense now!
Otherwise, we are doomed to a nation that is filled with
hate, prejudiced and students who will not be able to
compete in the 21st century
