What Do Last Night’s Election Results Mean?
Republican Wins Calif. House Race – New York Times
The Democratic parties “Culture of Corruption” meme got its first trial run yesterday. The results don’t look good for it’s success in the November elections.
In California Brian Bilbray (R) was the winner in the race to replace Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R), the only person convicted of corruption in the current scandals so far. (Unlike some of my friends I don’t really believe the rumor that his campaign motto was “Elect me for the best government your money can buy”) The challenger Franciine Busby tried to turn the race into a referendum on Administration policies while Bilbray concentrated on immigration issues, of course that focus was made a little easier when his opponent told a crowd “You don’t need papers to vote”.
Also in California Rob Reiner’s Universal Preschool Initative failed by almost 20%. This was also a fairly high profile failure for the Democrats as it involved a tax raising initative that was mainly targeted at “upper income” taxpayers. This may put a little kink in the “elect me and I will tax the rich into oblivion” campaign strategy some are advocating
In Montana Conrad Burns, who has been “linked” to Jack Abramoff won 75% of the primary vote.
So back to the question what do last night’s results mean?

Bilbray wins Cunningham’s seat ( all politics IS local )
I have stated many times here that all politics is local. Not heeding my advice, the Democrats have very openly and vocally made this year’s races a referendum on Bush, again. The early result? Brian Bilbray defeated Francine Busby for
