Hiltzik Target of Widening Investigation

Cathy Seipp is reporting in her blog that the LA Times is investigating Hiltzik’s work in general for other signs of dishonesty.

This would include is regular Business section column, which we’ve critiqued from a story selection perspective but never for ethical transgressions.

The enormously negative reaction to the revelations about Hiltzik’s actions have gotten some people already feeling sorry for for the pummeling he is getting from the right, left and middle. Hiltzik must be wondering when someone is going to step up and defend him. I’ve never seen someone appear so alone.

Update: While on the subject of the Times’ response, media analyst Tim Rutten touched on the Hiltzik scandal in his column today but gave no further details than the short paragraph that the Times had already released. For a detailed breakdown of the column and its shortcomings read Bradley Fikes’ “Rutten misses the point.”

“Rutten’s account doesn’t even mention Hiltzik’s purple-faced screaming fits, which make any derision by Patterico look mild.”

and Senior Administration Official have had some really good stuff lately, starting with the Charlie Sheen conspiracy post and it’s follow-ups, and running up through the entire Michael Hitzik scandal (also here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here). Full Disclosure I have posted on Independent Sources, but not on these two subjects. I will be working on a conspiracy post with Insider and SAO soon. Not that the amount of traffic I get here will seriously impact their stats.
