Selective Comment Moderation at Michael Hiltzik’s Golden State Blog?

Is the Los Angeles Times‘ Michael Hiltzik censoring Patterico (here, here)? Or just not allowing links in comments? Check back tomorrow for the answer!

Update, Tuesday Evening 4/18: Looks like it’s selective moderation!

Meanwhile, we had some comments by a person we strongly believe to be Hiltzik using the nom de comment Nofanofcablecos here. Nothing is more likely to make us receptive to an argument than the opening “Boy, you guys are stupid.” …

Interesting. I first meant to ask you why you thought this commenter is Hiltzik. Then I poked around in my own comments and figured it out. I’m fairly certain you’re right. I found out some other stuff as well, that is pretty eye-opening.

What’s the “eye-opening” stuff about Hiltzik?

    Patterico Says:

That might have been overstating it, depending upon whether you think it’s “eye-opening” that he regularly leaves nasty comments on blogs under assumed names.

I thought that might be it. IP address match, correct?

If so, that sounds much like what Cathy Seipp said happened with Nikki Finke and her “attorney”, who just happened to have the same IP address. Not only sneaky, but technologically clueless.

    Exactly.

    Patterico Says:

Oh, there is so much more to it than IP addresses. I have managed to unearth facts that establish it beyond a reasonable doubt. He’s been doing this for years, too. I’ll try to have more details in coming days. I wish my computer wasn’t down.

Beyond a reasonable doubt. As a prosecutor, you must use that term judiciously.

Sorry about the computer. (although being able to post via Treo is cool). Couldn’t you just post at a cyber cafe for the time being? Or get a $200 Linux computer like the ones they offer periodically at Fry’s?

This controversy reminds me of the antics of John R. Lott, who used a sock puppet he named “Mary Rosh” to defend himself and attack critics. A story in Reason contains part of the Lott saga:

More about Lott is on Wikipedia.

I’ve promised Hiltzik that if Patterico can’t prove his case, I’m going to profusely apologize to Hiltzik and condemn Patterico’s allegation. Just trying to make sure I don’t apply double standards.

. Insider and Senior Administration Official have had some really good stuff lately, starting with the Charlie Sheen conspiracy post and it’s follow-ups, and running up through the entire Michael Hitzik scandal (alsohere, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here). Full Disclosure I have posted on Independent Sources, but not on these two subjects. I will be working on a conspiracy post with Insider and SAO soon. Not that the amount of traffic I get here

Any Chance at all that you could explain to me the real reason you “Banned” me from your website??? I told the truth and you “Banned” me from your Website. Why???
