Saturday, March 11th, 2006 by Insider

Another reason to like Web 2.0. How else would one find a pack of creepy monkey children get killed off one-by-one in various bicycle safety mistakes:

Independent Sources denounces sexism in women’s tennis

Saturday, March 11th, 2006 by Insider

We at Independent Sources are unnerved by the sexist coverage of women’s tennis by the media. These are athletes and should be treated as such and not as some eye candy for cheap thrill seeking voyeurs. That said, check out this most outstanding shot of Martina Hingis as she does some kind of tennis thing:

Islamic Kites Kill Seven in Pakistan

Friday, March 10th, 2006 by Insider

Killer Islamic kites have murdered seven innocent bystanders in Pakistan’s Punjab Province buy cutting their throats. Some of the kites’ victims were young children. These murderous Islamic kites appear to have no moral compass and pick their victims at random. They typically strike during the day, especially when it is windy.

Christopher Arellano’s Web Site Still Contains False Claims

Thursday, March 9th, 2006 by Insider

How remorseful is LA school board candidate Christopher Arellano about the untruths and misrepresentations made during his campaign? Not much judging by his official web site (Christopherarellano.org) which still contains the very falsehoods that have embroiled his campaign.
As of today, March 9th, Independent Sources found that Arellano’s website still claims that Arellano earned two […]

Barbara Boxer Meets Daily Kos Readers; Publicity Hound Hounded

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006 by A Senior Administration Official

On Monday, when Senator Barbara Boxer asked Daily Kos readers to sign a petition to Donald Rumsfeld, her thread was immediately hijacked by commenters who showed the impeccable logic and sense of reality for which Kos readers are justly reknowned. A sampling:
Domestic Politics
“It must be awful being in Congress on the wrong side of a […]

LA Times heeds critics’ calls for Business Section improvements

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006 by Insider

Being Los Angeles locals and part of an ever more select group of people who still subscribe to the Los Angeles Times, Independent Sources has been grated by the sad state of the LAT Business Section. California’s economy is greater than most countries, yet the paper seems to have had a difficult time finding […]

Has America’s Most Annoying Senator Lost Traction?

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006 by A Senior Administration Official

A Field Poll released today shows that Senator Barbara Boxer’s approval rating has fallen to a nine year low of 41%. That nadir is driven by a 13% drop in approval by Democrats over the past year, accompanied by a 5% drop among non-partisan respondents.
As of this writing (10pm Tuesday), only the Sacramento Bee has […]

What’s worse, stupid class action lawsuits or stupid class action settlements?

Monday, March 6th, 2006 by Insider

I almost never open letters involving class action lawsuits since in the end they never seem to be worth the effort. More often than not, the plaintiff lawyers get a nice stack of cash, the defendant gets off with a slap on the wrist–often by dumping worthless certificates on the settlement class or by donating […]

Tom Hayden: Don’t Disagree With Me If You’re Black

Monday, March 6th, 2006 by A Senior Administration Official

In the Huffington Post, Tom Hayden rationally counters arguments that the race-is-everything viewpoint of the film Crash is flawed:
The Times’ news coverage highlighted critical comments about Crash by Joe Hicks, a local African-American who has become something of a David Horowitz in blackface, a former black communist who has degenerated into a virtual neo-conservative propagandist.

Update on the guy we called a bonehead

Friday, March 3rd, 2006 by Insider

We regret calling Christopher Arellano a bonehead. We did it because he flatly refused to even attempt to participate in a good natured pop quiz given by the LA Times consisting of a single basic match question. For a guy who claims to have multiple college degrees the question should have been quite easy. And […]
