Why We Love San Francisco: Freak Show

This peace-loving loon with his ‘message of peace’
The Global Day of Action Rally, held in SF on March 18th, was aimed to target the war in Iraq and other American policies. However, as the website ZombieTime points out, anarchists, like the ones organizing the protest, aren’t very good at coordinating with other groups (coordination is against the ethos of anarchy you see). For example, the most glaring scheduling snafu involved the Anarchist Bookfair, which was being held on the other side of San Francisco from the ANSWER march but on the same day at the exact same time. Seeing as the anarchist event and the anti-war event both drew on the same pool of potential attendees, accusations began to fly that each event was going to hurt attendance at the rival event.
The anarchists accused ANSWER of being Stalinists who use bullying tactics (which is true), while ANSWER accused the anarchists of being disorganized poseurs with no clue how to start a real revolution (which is also true).
ZombieTime has photos of all of the groups and it is definitely worth following the link. They also caught the online bickering between the different anarchist groups.
For those of you unfamiliar with ANSWER, here is the link to their website. They claim to not be anti-semitic. Look at the photos above and decide for yourself. Before some misguided ANSWER-simpathizer tells me that we have no way of knowing whether this individual is part of their group, he certainly looks at home in their little protest. Furthermore it does not seem to be bothering any of other folks there. I’m sure if I walked around with a ’support Donald Rumsfield’ sign I would have been escroted away or perhaps stoned by little red Mao books.
