Are Teachers as Ethical as Radio Shack?
Just as we posted the last update to the unfolding crisis of Christopher Arellano (“Update on the the guy we called a bonehead“), we saw that the LA Times was reporting that Eric Bauman, chairman of the county’s Democratic Central Committee had withdrawn its support for Arellano.
Bauman noted that he had asked Arellano if there was anything else that may come out that could embarrass him or the Democratic Party to which Areallano said no. A few hours later it was discovered that Arellano had been lying about his degrees.
But what about the Teacher’s Union? This is going to be an interesting choice for the them: ethics versus having a school board member in their pocket. When faced with almost exactly same dilemma (lying about college degrees and a criminal past–DUI), the Radio Shack board of directors took the high road, went with ethics and dumped their CEO, so did Oprah when push came to shove on the James Frey hoax. Let’s hope that the people who educate our children are at least as ethical as the people who sell us cheap radios and remote control cars.
Election Update: There will be a runoff in June between the union candidate, Arellano, and Monica Garcia–who we haven’t written about since she apparently has not spent time in jail as well as actually earned the educational credentials that she claims. This means the public will have another 90 days to see what else Arellano is hiding and for the teacher’s union to do the right thing.
