Would San Francisco Want A Battleship If It Wasn’t An American One? Hmm …

San Franciscans may not want the battleship Iowa anywhere near their city, but it looks like she would be welcome in Moscow … yes, that Moscow.

The BBC reports that these posters appeared around the Russian capital in preparation for Defender of the Motherland day:

The problem: that’s the Iowa’s sister ship, the USS Missouri — not exactly a unit of the Soviet or Russian navies.

Embarrassed Moscow city officials removed the posters on Wednesday.

This sparks an idea … what if the Iowa were presented to San Francisco’s supervisors as a symbol of Soviet military supremacy? Perhaps with some red flags flying from her masts? How quickly would we see her docked down at the waterfront?
