The Holly Ashcraft apologists were recently delivered a blow when the LA County coroner’s office ruled the infant’s death as a homicide. As readers of this blog know, Ashcraft is a 21 year old USC student who was arrested when her new born son was found in a trash bin behind her apartment. Ashcraft had previously been suspected of dumping a newborn a year before this incident when she arrived at a hospital emergency room having just given birth but without a child. In that case she told investigators that the baby had been stillborn so she just tossed it away. This time around her baby was found which led to her arrest.

Ashcraft’s attorney keeps lecturing the press that when the facts are known, we will see that “no crime was committed.” However, with the coroner ruling that Holly’s child was the victim of a homicide it would appear that a crime was indeed committed (as if finding a child in the dumpster wasn’t enough evidence of a crime.) Come on guy, about about getting your client a deal for the guilty plea that she deserves? Putting a baby in a dumpster (twice no less) is wrong no matter what legal spin you want to put on it.
