Richard Hatch Loses Immunity Challenge Against the IRS

On the hit show “Survivor”, winner Richard Hatch came off as a conniving, immoral, backstabbing lout. It turns out that in real life he is all these and more. So much for those who point a finger at reality show producers for editing shows in such a way as to distort what is really happening and what the people are really like.
Hatch was just found guilty of failing to pay taxes on his million dollar winnings as well as $327,000 he earned as co-host of a Boston radio show and another $28,000 in rent on property he owned. Further cementing his scumbag persona, Hatch was found guilty of using money donated to his charitable foundation for troubled youths, Horizon Bound, on personal expenses such as a limousine driver, dry cleaning and tens of thousands of dollars on improvements to a house he owned.
At one point during the trial, Hatch’s lawyer, Michael Minns, had stated that Hatch caught fellow contestants cheating and struck a deal with the show’s producers to pay his taxes if he won. Unfortunately for media watcher like Independent Sources they didn’t follow-through with this strategy. It would have been fun watching them on cross-examination explain how the show’s producers had also promised to pay taxes on the money Hatch stole from his charity, the Boston radio show, etc.
Yes, sometimes when you see a conniving creep on TV, they really are a conniving creep.
