Iger continues to cement legacy: Do the opposite of whatever Eisner would have done

Disney’s Bob Iger continues to employ the “what-would-Eisner-not-have-done” strategy, this time by acquiring the very company that Eisner had all but driven away. Look at the difference between these two quotes:

Bob Iger: “As I consider all of the different possibilities of returning Disney animation to greatness, it was clear to me that maintaining a relationship with Pixar was essential.”

Michael Eisner: [Pixar’s computer-generated human characters] “look pretty pathetic.”

Iger’s “I’m the opposite of Michael” has also been evidenced by:

Gutting Disney’s much-hated strategic planning department, and
Embracing technology (Iger’s licensing TV programs for downloading vs. Michael’s deriding “rip, mix, burn”)

At some point, Iger will have to set a strategy beyond being the anti-Michael, but for now it is certainly working.
