Leif Garrett Finds Out You’re Not A “Pop Star” Forever
The Los Angeles Times has established what it takes to be a “former” pop star — you can’t have had a hit in almost thirty years.
Michael Jackson fans expressed relief that their idol will continue to be considered simply a current “pop star” for several more years, despite years of poor album sales.
The distinction came to light in this morning’s LAT report “Former Teen Idol Garrett Charged With Heroin Possession.” That would be THE Leif Garrett, barechested, well-shampooed hero of many 14 year old girls — in 1977. Now he’s a heroin-posessing jumper of subway turnstiles with a booking photo that should make you wonder if he’s got bodies buried in his backyard.
Jackson, still identified as a “pop star” at the LATimes’ web site, can expect to have the “former” moniker added in about 2015.
