Blogging Experts, We’re Looking for A Good Hosting Company
If anyone knows a good host for a Wordpress blog, please let us know.
We’ve been with Lunarpages since our inception and have recommended them to many friends. However, they say that Independent Sources is using too much of our shared server’s resources, so we either pay $99 / month for a dedicated box, or move out.
We haven’t ruled out a telethon (blogathon?) yet, but we’d rather not pay $99 / month to make our voice heard.
While it doesn’t make sense to us that our little blog could be a problem, we’ve spent the last three weeks working to fix the issue. Despite a lack of specifics from Lunarpages tech support (insightfully, “I believe that this usage issue is likely caused by your wordpress installation”), we’ve done what we can. We’ve blocked URLs and sites that were hitting us as part of some internet pharmacy spam, cut the length of our homepage in half, implemented a cache, turned off what plugins we could, and changed our popular RSS feed so it doesn’t show the entire post. Despite reducing average CPU use of our shared server from 7% to 1%, memory use from 6% to 0.4%, and database load from 5% to 0.1%, we still find ourselves at risk of being exiled.
So if anyone has any suggestions for WordPress-friendly hosts that aren’t LunarPages, please leave a comment to this post (… although the extra load on the CPU may just hasten our day of reckoning!).

A couple of possible quick fixes: use compressed air to get the dust out of your skuzzi-port, and/or run a daisy chain through your toaster.

If you would quit mentiong hot lesbian cheerleader sex and hot french anchorwomen, then you wouldn’t get so many visitors and your problem would be fixed.

Yahoo and Wordpress announced a deal a few weeks ago where Yahoo Small Business will host Wordpress for ~ $9 / month. I saw somewhere that there were questions whether you could show Google ads under the TOS, and couldn’t tell whether you were free to use whatever plugins you wanted. Still, you may want to check it out.
