Gary Condit’s Kids Take Their Turn Soiling the Family Name
Independent Sources had not been in existence during the first public scandal for the Condit family so it was nice of them to drum up another one for us to enjoy. (Kind of like what Michael Jackson, OJ Simpson, and Scott Peterson keep doing for us).
About a year ago, Larry King interviewed the Condit kids, Chad and Cadee about the demise of their dad’s political career and the fallout from a middle-aged politician having his exceptionally young paramour, Chandra Levy, disappear under such mysterious circumstances. On the show they tried to defuse the murder rumors by describing him as “loving, caring, compassionate…”.
However the public was focusing on a different side of Condit. In an August 2001 CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, more than three-quarters described him as “immoral” and “dishonest.”
Now it looks like the kids are following in dad’s footsteps. The Fair Political Practices Commission has accused Chad and Cadee of taking money that was originally raised by their father to explore a run for state office and illegally spent it for personal purposes.
Someone needs to explain to the Condit kids that only dutifully elected officials are allowed to steal from their PACs and not unelected kids working for a disgraced, out-of-work father. Even in the seedy world of politics that’s just not right.
Among other misdeeds, the Condit children are believed to have paid themselves $226,000 for producing a family film about their father but ended up not producing it or doing any other work. Once again, such activities are typically reserved for those in office.
The FPPC noted that the checks and balances in how the money was spent were insufficient in that Chad was the treasurer and authorized the payments to himself. They also noted that neither of them had any experience in film making. He also gave himself and his sister a Christmas bonus of $3,000 each.
Incidentally, and unrelated but we thought it funny, Chad owns an ice cream parlor in Arizona.
