81 degrees in January? Time for a mountain bike ride!

It was 81 degrees today in Santa Monica. A warm, sunny January day calls for a complete reworking of the day’s calendar of events. Work, gym, video games, all out! Mountain biking in.
I rode up into the Santa Monica Mountains for a 3-hour trail ride. The picture below is the route that I just came up. You can see the Santa Monica Bay and of course the Pacific Ocean.

Ahead of me was a most bizarre trail. I had a hard time imagining how this trail was created and maintained until I came across a shovel-toting mountain bike rider working on it. Good for him. Do not ride this portion of the trail on a full stomach as there are a hundred or so of these “whoop-dee-doos” to knock anything inside you loose.

Three hours later a cold beer and the feeling of a job well done.
Now what was I supposed to do today? I wonder how things are in the Northeast?

Things in the Northeast are great for hitting the slopes. We just finished getting some more great powder and almost all the major trails are open. The temps are a little on the chill side, but it has mostly been above 0 so far, at least here in Maine.
