Yuletide Fire

Friday, December 23rd, 2005 by Insider

A local TV station in Los Angeles will again broadcast a roaring fire all Christmas morning with commercial free Christmas music. In LA this seems perfectly natural though I can imagine others looking at this as another example of the artificial nature of everything we do.

Campy or not, we like it.

Google’s Latest Challenge: Microsoft may pay you to search

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005 by Insider

By being free, Google probably thought they were safe from being undercut by Microsoft. Turns out that might not be so true. Microsoft is floating a concept where they will share their search ad revenue with the users that are generating it. Once again we see that from a consumer’s point of view, competition is […]

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005 by Insider

Here is a question for you media watchers, Who would have thought that Lauren Holly would become such a written-about personality in non-celebrity blogs? Two Words for Cable Companies: Record Business

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005 by Insider

Consumers can be funny. They might allow an industry to walk all over them for decades and then all of a sudden they turn on them with a ferocity completely unexpected. The record business has been learning this lesson for the past 5 years. Cable is about to learn it to and the parallels are […]

Iran Living up to “Axis of Evil” Moniker

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005 by Insider

Last month we wrote a posting about Iran’s new nut-in-charge, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and got this comment:

“He is the best president for me and for Iranians.
Be care USA politicians don’t deceive we and you.
Thanks”

For reasons we do not understand we get a fair amount of traffic from Iran (probably checking out stories like this one) so […]

Defamer: Michael Jackson’s ‘Neverfed’ Ranch

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005 by Insider

When war strikes an impoverished nation, zoos find themselves at the bottom of the food chain. When the money runs out, people are starving and there is rampant mayhem, zoo animals are the last to get fed (and the first to get eaten). With this in mind, no one describes the conditions at Michael Jackson’s […]

Streisand and Gibb? Starbucks’ rare music miscue

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005 by Insider

While making my daily trip to Starbucks, I was greeted with this upsetting sight..

Could there be two less relevant artists than Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb? Tip to Starbucks, just because you can get these two back together doesn’t mean you should do it.
Not to squash dissent but I will delete any comments telling me […]

LAT conducts a rare (albeit limited) MSM expose on Scientology

Sunday, December 18th, 2005 by Insider

Independent Sources would like to commend the Los Angeles Times for its Column One story on Scientology and the church’s use of Tom Cruise and his celebrity status. The mainstream media has always had a difficult time with Scientology. On one hand, the Times wants nothing more than expose the “religion” as nothing more than […]
