The Last Barbara Boxer Post of 2005
Resolved for 2006: to not let Barbara Boxer bragging about her “highest vote total in U.S. Senate history” raise my blood pressure (see here, here, and her official bio here).
It’s almost impossible not to be in the top two when you’re in the nation’s most populous state (and facing inept candidates makes it a slam dunk). B-F-D.

In 2004 George Bush had the highest popular vote total in U.S. presidential election history: 62.0 million votes, eclipsing the Reagan landslide in 1984 (54.5m).

Bizarre tidbit: while researching this, I found out that former Presidential press secretary Pierre Salinger, now a conspiracy theorist (Pan Am 103 caused by CIA drug-running! Film at 11!), was U.S. Senator from California for the last five months of 1964!

Republicans have done a great job creating cynicism and apathy. So many people have been turned off to the process by Bush and Co., that its created the perfect minority-rule opportunity. My bet is that people have just about had enough and the sleeping giant will awaken to cast a vote in 2006. Beware the populist backlash.
