No we do not have insight as to what is going on in Michael Jackson’s mind however it is certainly possible that he threw a tizzy when he heard about how cheaply Gary Glitter was able to deal with his child molestation cases in Vietnam. Remember that Michael had to pay upwards of $20m to a young man who shared his bed in the nineties. Gary Glitter, having done much worse to two children in Vietnam, was able to settle with the families of the children he molested for $2000 a piece.

While this only deals with the civil portion of Glitter’s problems the disparity between what he paid and what Michael had to pay is striking. Perhaps this is why Michael has moved to Bahrain, it’s just too expensive to molest kids in America. (Another example of outsourcing to foreign low cost countries!)

Update: 1/7/05. Glitter has been charged with committing obsense acts with girls aged 10 and 11. The charges carry prison terms of 3 to 7 years. Prosecutors had originally considered child rape but ended up filing the lesser charges. He remains in jail in Ho Chi Minh City where he was arrested trying to board a flight out of the country.
