Upside of Los Angeles Living #2: mountain bike riding on Christmas Day
On a day that was freezing across the United States, Insider was able to enjoy mountain biking in the local Santa Monica mountains.

One popular trail leads to this old Nike missle site that guarded the Los Angeles area from Soviet bombers during the cold war. They were made obsolete with the introduction of the ICBM but remain a cool relic to ride to.
There are bits and pieces of the cold war all over the Los Angeles area since this area was such a big target both from the perspective of population but also from the amount of the defense industry that used to be based here.
