Can Michael Jackson be the new Kate Moss?

Both Wacko Jakko and Kate had tough years from pedophilia trials to being filmed snorting coke. Read:

Both lost the support of the public and corporations. However, today after a relatively short time of being down, Kate and her career are back. Can Michael accomplish same?

Unlikely.

Kate’s comeback is unique in that her scandalous image is helping fuel her resurgence. According to at least one advertising expert, people may actually be even more ready now to embrace her because of her problems with drug-use believing that the public can get even more involved with someone who has survived a scandal. Furthermore, she went to rehabilitation center showing that she wants to deal with the problem.

None of this applies to Jackson. First off, it’s one thing to condone drug used by a model who previously had defined the “heroin chic” look. It’s a completely different thing to expect the public to forget the bizarre singer’s penchant for young boys in his bed or his increasingly bizarre behavior. While heroin chic might work in fashion, “manchild love” is unlikely to work in pop music.

Jackson has also never addressed his own behavior. No rehabilitation, no counseling, no fessing up to the fact that he has very serious problems. Instead he jumps from advisor to advisor and country to country to escape his problems. I used to have an expression that you don’t bounce up until you hit bottom. This was true for Moss, but for Jackson I think he might have found an abyss to fall into.
