Why the sudden interest in Lauren Holly?

Here is a question for you media watchers, Who would have thought that Lauren Holly would become such a written-about personality in non-celebrity blogs? Holly herself is probably scratching her head wondering about it. For those of you who don’t know, Holly is an actress who hit the tabloids in the 90s due to her relationship with Jim Carrey. She used to look like this:

Here is another view:

If you had to describe her you might say something like “white, blond, medium breasts (real), average body size…”. This is exactly how website (and body type experts) Mr. Skin describe her.

The story would have ended here if not for a whirlwind of blog reporting on what exactly has happened to her physique in the past few years. The interesting aspect of this story isn’t that she may have made changes, which to be honest who cares, name a celebrity that doesn’t do something similar. The real story is how an otherwise non-story has crossed over into political and current events blogs. Squeezed between stories on Iraq and Ron Paul, one can find a Lauren Holly article. Now that is odd. Photos like the ones below are floating all over the net.

Will the scrutiny on Holly’s chest have an impact on her ability to get desirable roles? Does the story have legs or will it disappear as quickly as is began? Was the story “placed” by “her people” or were they as caught off guard as everyone else? All of this is to be seen, but it is interesting how every once in awhile one, for no particular reason, a B-celebrity getting an exceptionally common procedure becomes Internet/tabloid fodder while others doing the same thing are met with a shrug. The person who can figure out media whirlwinds will have the world at their fingertips.

I don’t see any “controversy” here. They’re big, and they’re spectacular. Who cares how or when they got that way? Blowing it into a big story can only discourage other women from following in Lauren’s heroic footsteps. Is a flat-chested world part of the IndependantSources mission statement?
