Not Content With Just Starving His Country, Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe Shoots the Messenger

Zimbabwe’s “President” (for life) Robert Mugabe called a United Nations envoy a liar for his criticism of humanitarian conditions in Zimbabwe. Given the massive food shortages caused by Mugabe’s racist policies that have decimated Zimbabwe’s once productive farming sector not to mention the fact that the UN and its donor nations are feeding six million of its citizens, I think we can call Mugabe out for being both a hypocrite and biting the hand that is feeding his people. But despots often do stuff like this. How does Mugabe respond to the organization keeping his country alive…
“He’s a…hypocrite and a liar,” said Mugabe.
It’s ironic that one of the world’s most worst strongman rulers is so critical of others but irony seems to follow Mugabe. Just last week during a state of the nation speech being used to address Zimbabwe’s widespread electricity shortages there was a power failure knocking out Mugabe’s speech. Instead the state-run radio and TV stations were forced to run cartoons.
Why does Independent Sources not like Robert Mugabe? Well…
Up to 6 million people in Zimbabwe will need food assistance between January and March. International agencies are planning to provide food to more than 3 million people. Food is hard to find; prices are skyrocketing above most people’s ability to pay; and the country has a critical shortage of both fuel for distributions and foreign currency. (Reuters AlertNet)
“The situation is very serious in Zimbabwe when life expectancy goes from more than 60 years to just over 30 years in a 15-year span […] It’s not just a crisis - it’s a meltdown” (The Telegraph)
Zimbabwean inflation passes 500% (BBC)
If he wasn’t killing so many people we’d be laughing at his antics. At least he doesn’t have nukes.
