Do we really have to give readers what they want?
The regular reader(s) of Independent Sources know that lately we have been doing a lot of soul searching. (See Sen. Admin. Official’s post earlier today on this topic.) When I read his post I wondered if we shouldn’t simply give the people what they want. To do this all we have to do is see what search terms are bringing people to Independent Sources and then write posts on those topics. However when we see what in fact people are using search engine’s for, we see what a really bad idea this is.

Unless they are researching the effects of long-term steroid effects on someone’s private parts, then what in the world is this Google-user thinking?
We do not have nude pictures of Rafael Palmeiro, Paul Krugman, or Michael Hiltzik. Please take those searches elsewhere.

Just as in business, stick with what you do best. There are porn sites that will do the sex thing much better then you could ever hope to. There are specialty sites for everything and it doesn’t take much brain power to run them. People come to your site for the quick wit, current events and a take on those events that maybe they haven’t thought of (all of which tend to be peppered with at the very lest some moral insight). Leave the porn to the Godless, soulless, unemployable morons who couldn’t run for block president and win.

I started making my blog serious and lost half my readers. Back to blather now, and it’s all good.
