Daily Kos: Our Lies Are For The Greater Good
The Daily Kos’ “Hunter” is upset at the use of the phrase “deranged moonbats” in the opening of Jonah Goldberg’s inaugural LAT column. Hunter says this makes the LAT editorial pages more blog-like, and that’s bad:
What is the purpose of editorial content? Is it meant to educate readers? To debate issues? To provide new, original ideas that cannot or will not be presented by the politically powerful? To attack? Or simply as masturbatory fodder for those few readers who treat their political affiliations with the all-encompassing fervor that they treat sports franchises, less concerned with either education, debate, knowledge or accuracy than with half-drunken taunts at the opposing team?
Whose fault is this lowering of standards? “Conservatives, after having repeatedly shoved the discourse of the country into a series of ever-deeper ravines via the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Michelle Malkin and an unending stream of similar though lesser clones.”
But not the good guys. Not Kos.
Well, maybe Kos. Let’s look Kos’s top story this evening (early AM back East): McClellan: The American People are Traitors:
“Scott McClellan appears to have lost his sanity completely. He now accuses the majority of the American People of being traitors.”
Except that McClellan did no such thing. In the Kos post they link to, McClellan used the word “baffling” to describe Rep. John Murtha’s support for withdrawing from Iraq. Nothing stronger.
“Concern for accuracy” indeed.
