Sex, Politics, or Economics: What brings you to Independent Sources?

The search results that bring you to Independent Sources say a lot about both you our readers and us the writers. We decided to look at our traffic logs to see what search terms were bringing in the most traffic and how Independent Sources ranked in the search engines on those searches.

One of our more popular posts is Charting Lindsay Lohan’s Breasts with Excel. On MSN “lindsay lohan breasts,” we are the #2 result out of 51,483. (Be assured we will not rest until we are #1 on this important search phrase).

Searching on “hot anchorwoman” points you to our Melissa Theuriau: Smoking Hot French Anchorwoman Covers Riots and Stuff and a #1 ranking on Yahoo (out of over 58,000). We are rather proud of the fact that when people research hot anchorwomen they are directed to Independent Sources. Not a bad accomplishment for a blog that is not yet 1-year old.

One of our biggest accomplishments has been our coverage of the Hot Lesbian Carolina Panther Cheerleader Sex. Of course we were not the only people to write about this nor were we the only people to see a traffic boost (see the appropriately named Wizbang), but we are the #1 MSN result for “carolina cheerleaders lesbian” (which you can trust us is an exceptionally popular search phrase).

Of course, Independent Sources does much more than uncover such salacious topics. We are pleased that our political stories have also been recognized by you and the search engines. Type in “boobs not bombs protest, Sac CA” and you see that our coverage of this political event ranks #1 (“That Wasn’t Lesbian Cheerleader Sex, It Was Political Protest“):

and searching on “man cures himself of aids” takes you our “Man Cures Himself of Aids, Not Likely

Finally, of the 113,000 sources cited by Yahoo for the “ncaa mascot decision,” our story (“NCAA Mascot Decision Shows Stupidity Knows No Boundary“) is #2 right behind the NCAA website. Of the two, who are you going to trust?

The end result is that our traffic has steadily grown from the days were we were exclusively writing these kinds of stories:

to today where we spice up our business, economics, media coverage with a little bit of:

…leading to this level of traffic.

If you want to see Independent Sources biggest stories of all time look at the right-hand column of the blog.

We hope you continue to read and enjoy Independent Sources as much as we enjoy writing it.
