Warren Beatty to Governor: How Dare You Take Money from Successul, Self-Made Millionaires

“Let’s stand up for our nurses and our teachers and our police and our firefighters,” says Actor Warren Beatty in a new ad paid for by the nurses union.

Why isn’t he saying let’s stand up for our DMV clerks who won’t look me in the eye or say hello, our prison guards who appear immune to punishment, and all of the other pubic service workers? What about longshoremen and those nice grocery clerks who made rude comments to me and my kids as we shopped during their strike? Shouldn’t we be standing up for them too? Won’t they be affected or will it only affect school teachers, police officers and fire fighters? While discussing teachers will it affect Mrs. G., my 10th grade English teacher, who mentally checked out of most of our school year and sat in a drunken stupor as we learned nothing? Shouldn’t we be standing up for her too? (Somebody has to since it won’t be her students or their parents. Thank God she’s got employment for life going for her.)

On a related issue, Warren Beatty is also attacking the governor because his top donors are all wealthy. Is it really a surprise that the people writing the really big checks are people who can afford to do so? It turns out if you look at the list that a disproportionate number of Arnold’s donors are self-made, successful businessmen who built large companies in competitive businesses. On the list are the founders of DHL, Broadcom, and Univision. I guess if you’ve made tens of millions of dollars standing in front of cameras reading what other people have written, building DHL or Broadcom must seem pretty pedestrian. I may have to go rent “Reds” to understand Beatty’s thinking.
