Senator Barbara Boxer, D-CA was on The Daily Show to push her new novel “A Time To Run,” but had time to say of Judge Samuel Alito:

“He’s a very soft-spoken man, but some of his rulings have been harsh.”

… thus encapsulating everything wrong with her approach to the role of the judiciary. Should they be interpreters of legislative intent? No … per Boxer, judges must be seekers of the least-harsh outcome!

She also tried to say something about 42 Alito dissents but failed to articulate it well enough to be understood — sole dissents, perhaps?

Always focused on self-promotion in her day job, she failed to make the book sound the least bit interesting. She told Stewart that she worked on it for seven years, but it was only a year and a half ago that someone advised her that it needed some conflict. Did she skip seventh grade English? Despite the presence of a professional writer as a co-author, “A Time To Run” has received generally poor reviews, which makes us wonder — just how much more awful was that conflict-free first draft?

Tomorrow’s Los Angeles Times will feature an article headlined Many Liberal Lawyers Say Alito Is Not an Ideologue … it presents the nominee as “… an honest conservative judge who believes in judicial restraint and judicial deference,” according to one former 3d Circuit colleague. The odds of that assessment impacting the vote of California’s junior Senator? Zero.
