Islamic extremists have called for the murder of veteran Egyptian actor Omar Sharif Omar Sharif because he played St Peter in an Italian TV film.

Of course, to call for murder because you don’t like the role an actor selected is pretty twisted but considering the President of Iran just called for the State of Israel to be wiped out of existence I guess we should keep one single Islamic death threat in perspective. When you think about it they only called for Sharif’s death and not the entire population of Italy. Perhaps this is the moderate faction of Islam we’ve been waiting for.

“He is a crusader who is offending Islam and Muslims and receiving applause from the Italian people. I give you this advice, brothers, you must kill him.”

Now that al-Qaeda is using the web for so much of their communication I wonder if they are going to get tripped up by comment spam like everyone else? I can just imagine this showing up in the comment section to the Fatwa against Sharif:

Come on al-Qaeda, how about a death threat against Splogs?
