Sorry for being a gun-nerd! ;-) It looks like a rimmed-case as opposed to a semi-auto with an extractor groove, and with a round-point hunting bullet not a pointy spitzer. Former East-bloc cartridge cases are also characterized by that kind of black finish: http://makarov.com/graphics/ammo/FNM762x54R.jpg

I was actually being complementary on the knowledge shown by the gun community. You guys know your stuff. I have quite a few friends with similar knowledge and they impress me when we are watching movies and they point out errors from the way that people are holding the guns to the sounds they are making when fired.

Despite the CA "assult weapon" Ban we can still own and shoot guns in the Golden State, just not ones that look all black and scary. The SKS is kind of a homely pig of a gun, Eastbloc-trailer Euro-trash and all that. Even comes with a pigsticker on the end. Not much good after 100 yards.

We haven't heard anything from the 'pork' people though showing gun people know more about what they shoot than most people know about what they eat.

I'm a little concerned about the gun/bullet knowledge your readership seems to have...

BTW - I worked @ Publix in FL, doesn't surprise me in the least.

Strange straight-walled (?) black cartridge too, reminds me a bit of an SKS round.

That bullet was not used to kill the pig. It was put in afterward. What you see is the entire cartridge; bullet and shell. If the pig had been shot with that, you would onlt see the tip (bullet, projectile) and it would probably be more deformed.
