Two new sites want to be online marketplaces for news photos taken by amateurs.
Spy Media lets users upload photos (only “entertainment, historical, news event, sports, natural disasters”) and price them.
Another new site, Cell Journalist, seems to have the same concept.
In the UK, a similar site — Scoopt.com — has sold only three photos. It seems people are usually willing to give their photos to news organizations at no charge. But once they find out they can make a few bucks …? We look forward to 719 different photos of the next DWP-induced power failure in LA.
